Policy on Generative AI Use

AI Use

 

At LHS students CAN use AI to:

  • Check spelling or grammar
  • Ask for help understanding a concept
  • Brainstorm ideas for a topic (with teacher permission)
  • Get feedback on something they’ve written (with teacher permission)

At LHS students CANNOT use AI to:

  • Complete creative assignments or written work on their behalf
  • Copy AI answers into handwritten assignments
  • Rephrase AI writing and pretend it’s their own
  • Skip thinking and just use what AI says

Unethical uses of AI:

  • Students suspected of using AI for graded assignments may be subject to marks deductions, rewrite requirements, grades of 0%, and/or parent notification.
  • In cases where AI use is disputed, students may be asked to provide drafts, outlines, and other examples of original work.
  • Editing software such as Grammarly must be disclosed to the classroom teacher, and teachers may ask students to submit their original work alongside any software edited submissions.
