LUMSDEN HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION POLICY

In order to qualify to take part in all Graduation activities, students will have completed all requirements or be in a position to complete a Saskatchewan Grade 12 standing by May 30, 2026. As well, students must be passing all required classes by May 30, 2026.
Students must acquire a minimum total of twenty-four (24) credits overall at the Secondary Level.

The first potential graduation eligibility list will be posted February 2026. It is the responsibility of each student to ensure that his/her name is on the list, and to verify the spelling and the complete name, as this is exactly how the legal name will appear on the diploma. Students should notify Mrs. Grant in the Main Office of any changes.

In keeping with school division policy, we at Lumsden High School believe that on graduation day a student's academic achievement should be recognized. As a result, Lumsden High School organizes the graduation exercises.

START UP INFORMATION

VALEDICTORIAN

The role of the Valedictorian is to serve as the representative voice of the entire graduating class. This position should be looked upon as an honour.

The committee will create a short list of graduates that are in the top five academic averages based on ELA A30, ELA B30, a Social, and the next 2 highest – 30 level classes based on marks obtained up to Term 3 mark cut off. Graduates will vote for a student to be their valedictorian. The valedictorian is a student with excellent academic standing, excellent attendance, positive behavior and has contributed to the life of the school in many ways. The student receiving the most votes by the Graduating student body will be the valedictorian.

Graduation Cap & Gown photos will take place March 2-5, 2026 at LHS. Photos will be taken by Edge Imaging.

All LHS Graduates will be required to have their photo taken to be in the school composite and the Yearbook but are not obligated to purchase photos. A booking link will be forwarded to families by email prior to grad photos. Families requiring retakes should contact Edge Imaging.

Sitting fee is $40.00/student. We bring 3-4 different backgrounds and photograph 15-20 different poses. We provide the gowns, sash, hats, diploma prop, table prop, book prop and red roses prop. Please have students bring their own shirt and tie if they wish to wear one, whatever they wear will show up under the gown, NO hoods. We recommend wearing a white or black shirt with no logos or a V-neck shirt. The students have the option to add on casual photos (at no extra cost). They can bring up to 3 different outfits or personal props such as sports equipment, musical instruments, photos of their younger selves, books, pets if the school allows it (No weapons or paraphernalia of any kind and no friends in the photos). We offer red roses to every student as an optional prop. Each student will get 15-20 minutes with the photographer.

SEATING REQUESTS

Grad Seating

Immediate family (Parents / Step-parents / Guardians) will be assigned seating based on a draw and location of the graduate during the ceremony. This will be completed by school administration and a student grad rep. All other guests will have unreserved general seating. We will require exact numbers for immediate family and an estimate for additional guests upon request and no later than March 20. If the number of general guests changes by more / less than 5 please notify the school (any changes less than 5 will not have an impact on seating capacity. More information to apply for seating requests/numbers with be sent out via email to families.

GRADUATION AWARDS/SCHOLARSHIPS

Lumsden High School recognizes that education is a life-long process. We are proud of our many graduates who pursue post-secondary education. To support graduates in their worthwhile endeavours, the Lumsden High School Graduation Awards Committee actively seeks out sponsors who are willing to support our graduates. We offer our thanks to the many contributors.

Donors

Local sponsors donate approximately $30,000 each year to our Lumsden High School Awards. These awards are not tied to any post-secondary institution; they are donated by private donations from local sponsors.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Awards Application

LHS Grad Awards 2026 – General Application and Service Application will be available at the end of April 13-17. A digital version of the LHS Grad Awards Guide 2026, containing detailed information about each award, is available on www.lhscareer.ca (starting April 13). Students must apply online (TWO forms required) and email supporting documents for graduation awards.

Steps to Apply:

Complete the General Application online (link available once Grad Awards are released).
Complete the Service Application online (link available once Grad Awards are released).
Applications cannot be saved while you are working or changed after they are submitted. Be sure you are ready to complete the whole application before you start.
Email additional documentation (ie. reference letters, etc.) if required to [email protected] by the deadline.

All General Applications, Service Applications, and any additional document must be submitted in person or via email to [email protected] by May 15, 2026 at 3 PM. No exceptions.

Awards Criteria

Each award has specific criteria that have been developed by the award sponsors. Students must ensure that they meet the criteria by reading through the LHS Grad Awards Guide 2026. Common award criteria are: community involvement, academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, and geographic location. For some awards, students will need to fill out the Service Application portion of the Awards Application; for other awards, a written submission is required. Detailed requirements for each award are indicated in the Grad Awards Guide.

Awards Selection

The Lumsden High School Graduation Awards Committee consists of four to five grade twelve teachers, the career counsellor, and one administrator. The committee will select the award recipients based on the criteria for each award as specified by the award sponsor.

Terms and Conditions

To qualify as potential recipients for Lumsden High School graduation awards, graduates must meet the following conditions:

be a LHS 2026 graduate.
be enrolling in post-secondary (university, college, technical institute, apprenticeship) for the 2026-27 school year*.
submit a General Application and Service Application form online (TWO forms required) and email other documents to [email protected] by the deadline.
authorize the Lumsden High School Grad Awards Committee to collect, use, store, and confirm information about the graduate, and share with donor selection committee(s) for purposes of administering the awards. The LHS Grad Awards Committee will use the information only for the purposes of evaluating the graduate’s application.
authorize LHS to share your graduation photo with the local newspaper and award donors.
sign the “Acknowledgement and Authorization” component of the application, agreeing to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.

*Under extenuating circumstances, the Graduation Awards Committee may consider extending the receipt of the award up to one year. Please submit the “Grad Award Intentions Form” to Lumsden High School by October 30, 2026 to inform the Committee of your circumstances so they can grant an extension or not.

Claiming Your Award

A letter will be given to the recipient explaining the process for claiming the award. The recipient will be asked to provide proof of tuition fees paid to a technical institute, college/university, a recognized post-secondary institution, or proof of registration in an apprenticeship program and present to the LHS office by Friday, October 30, 2026. An award winner can also choose to email the documentation to [email protected]. A cheque will be issued or mailed out to the student for the award amount at this time.

Cultural Awards

Students who self-declare as Metis or First Nation are eligible to participate in a cultural presentation. A Metis sash is presented to each Metis graduate upon consultation with Administration. The school will make contact with Metis Nation Saskatchewan on behalf of the family. Students who identify as First Nation are eligible for a Star Blanket or Eagle feather presentation. Families are responsible for contacting their reserve and informing administration prior to June 2, 2026 to be added to the program.

AFTER GRAD

As noted in the PVSD Graduation policies outlined by Prairie Valley School Division, the After Grad activities are a non-sanctioned school event planned and ran by the Grad Parent committee. See Graduation book with AP - 3515 Policy

As noted in the PVSD Graduation policies outlined by Prairie Valley School Division, the Banquet activities are a non-sanctioned school event planned and ran by the Grad Parent committee.

Please note: After Grad fees will be collected separate from the Grad fees as noted in PVSD regulations. For more information, please contact the Parent Banquet Committee. Banquet fees may vary and will be set by the parent banquet committee.

No "after-grad" or "safe-grad" functions are to be organized, condoned, or supervised by the SCC, school staff or Division staff. Any "after-grad" activities organized by individuals would be undertaken purely as private ventures without the approval or supervision of the school or the School Division.
