Nov 2024

We are still quite early in the year, that being said, graduation is an exciting time for our students and their families as they prepare to celebrate the close of this chapter in their lives.

In advance of the formation of a grad planning committee or parent meetings, we wanted to reach out to you with some basic information about the roles and responsibilities of the school in planning the graduation and ceremony. Please note that PVSD provides all schools with a set of guidelines for graduation ceremonies within the school division, we are simply following these guidelines.

LHS is responsible for pre-booking a venue and determining the date and time of the graduation ceremony. In order to secure a venue large enough to accommodate all our graduates and their guests, a venue was booked at the end of last school year and this information has been submitted to PVSD.

Venue: Queensbury Grand Ballroom

Date: June 27, 2024       Time: 3:00 PM              Grad Arrival Time: 1:30 PM (Group Photo: 1:45 PM)

According to the guidelines provided to us by PVSD, LHS is also responsible for the following:

  • Assigning a Master of Ceremonies
  • Contacting and arranging for dignitaries to be in attendance
  • Ceremony Division-Approved PowerPoint
  • Diplomas
  • Scholarships and Awards
  • Decoration and the management of the graduation ceremony budget
  • Valedictorian Selection
  • Selection of student speakers and approval of speeches
  • Hosting parent information meetings and student grad planning meetings
  • Arranging for Cap and Gown Photos

Working alongside a student grad planning committee, the Grad Advisors will work to plan and execute the graduation ceremony. Parents will be kept informed of the planning process through online parent grad meetings, to be determined at a later date.

Please note that the school is not responsible for any post-grad day celebrations, including:

  • arrangements for a dinner
  • dance
  • or any additional celebrations that may occur.

Any families wishing to plan such events will need to do so independent of the school.

  • You would be interested in Grad Planning Committee (facilitated through LHS)
  • Post Graduation Parent Planning Committee (independent of school)
